The Sopron Basket locker room complex stands out on an international level for its unique and futuristic design. It is a prestigious facility that not only meets the needs of the players but also promotes their unity. The design is devoted to the traditional team identity, yet it pushes the boundaries of what a locker room can be.
The design process was inspired by the life of a professional sports team. The designers distinguished three paths that guided their design: minimalistic functionalism, futuristic appearance, and the life of a professional female basketball athlete. These elements are seamlessly integrated into the design, creating a space that is both functional and visually striking.
The realization of the design involved stretching technological boundaries. The shower room features concrete coated surfaces, edgeless plexiglass lamps sunken into the wall, and magnetic whiteboards with lit outlines of a basketball court. The seating furniture utilizes a complex system of geometry with no room for imprecision, with laser-cut steel sheets separating the player-seats and metal-covered front doors.
The locker room complex is divided into a conference-coaching room and a private locker room area. The locker room itself has a "communications wall" with screens and a magnetic whiteboard. Each player has a personal seat that can be easily decorated with magnets. The seats are democratically placed on a curve in a centralized arrangement, promoting team member equality.
The project, which started in May 2017 and finished in October 2018, was a significant challenge due to space and resource limitations. The designers had to come up with innovative ideas in every room to maintain the design standard they set for themselves. Many of their technical/technological solutions were unprecedented in their respective fields, requiring constant consultation with experts and active participation in implementation.
The design was awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. The Sopron Basket locker room design embodies extraordinary excellence and significantly impacts the world with its desirable characteristics.
